Chain me not, let me fly
Spread my wings and soar into the sky.
I’m leaving behind the misery and the pain,
The darkness and the lies;
The ruthless destruction
That stems from the hatred and the contempt.
A world without humanity,
A world without principles;
Love and brotherhood a lost cause -
The beauty of life eclipsed by man’s greed.
People go on but they forget to live,
They interact but they forget to love,
They die but alas, without a cause.
My heart bleeds –
Tormented cries stifle me,
Shattered dreams and hopes haunt me,
Life fallen prey to man’s selfishness.
Oh free me from this curse,
The fumes that sting the eyes,
The venom that makes me cry.
What are we heading towards?
Tomorrow seems so empty – lifeless
Broken homes, orphaned children,
The sound of bombshells through the
Deathly silence, barren wastelands…
Let me fly away
And never hear the screams of innocent
People being ravaged and maimed by war;
Let me fly away
And never have to bear witness to
The futility of this annihilation.
Let me fly away,
Before I fall into the dark abyss of nothingness
Before I lose myself in the chaos.
The limitless expanse of blue
Beckons me to freedom,
A new light, a new world embraces me
I’m free, free, free
Finally and….forever.
